Does eero support private relay?

iCloud Private Relay and eero secure both try to protect your DNS lookups. They conflict with each other if they are trying to run simultaneously, like two people trying to drive the same car. We recommend using without using private relay on eero, but use it elsewhere.

Does private relay work like a VPN?

Is Private Relay a VPN? There is certainly some overlap in benefits between Private Relay and VPN. Both use encryption, both mask your true IP address, and both help obscure your internet traffic. But Private Relay is not a VPN and it shouldn't be considered a direct VPN alternative either.

From your screenshot, it looks like the unknown device that connected to your network is a "private device." This means that the device most likely has mac randomization enabled, which causes it to obtain a new mac address frequently and show up on your eero network as being unknown.
