What is the construction of static relays?

The static relay includes different components like a semiconductor switching device, a set of i/p & switching terminals, and an optocoupler. The electromagnetic relay includes different components like an Electromagnet, Moving armature & set of i/p & switching terminals. This relay doesn't have any moving parts.

What is the construction of a relay?

A simple electromagnetic relay consists of a coil of wire wrapped around a soft iron core (a solenoid), an iron yoke which provides a low reluctance path for magnetic flux, a movable iron armature, and one or more sets of contacts (there are two contacts in the relay pictured).

What is the function of static relay?

Static relays are extensively used in ultra-high speed protection schemes of EHV-A.C., lines utilizing distance protection. It is also used in overcurrent and earth fault protection schemes.

What is the principle of static differential relay?

Definition: The relay whose operation depends on the phase difference of two or more electrical quantities is known as the differential protection relay. It works on the principle of comparison between the phase angle and the magnitude of the same electrical quantities.

What is static in construction?

A static load is a mechanical force applied slowly to an assembly or object. Static loads do not change over time but remain constant, allowing tests to be conducted to determine the maximum loads that can be withstood by structures such as bridges or floors in tower blocks.

What are the 3 main parts of a relay?

A relay contains a coil, an armature, and at least one pair of contacts. Current flows through the coil, which functions as an electromagnet and generates a magnetic field. This pulls the armature, which is often shaped as a pivoting bracket that closes (or opens) the contacts.

What are the 2 parts of a relay?

Main Parts of a Relay

The primary side and the secondary side. The Primary Circuit provides the control signal to operate the relay. This could be controlled by a manual switch, a thermostat or some type of sensor. The primary circuit is generally connected to a low voltage DC supply.

What is the working principle of a relay?

Relay works on the principle of electromagnetic induction. When the electromagnet is applied with some current, it induces a magnetic field around it. Above image shows working of the relay. A switch is used to apply DC current to the load. In the relay, Copper coil and the iron core acts as electromagnet.

What is static relay PDF?

It is a relay that uses solid state components like transistors and diodes for the measurement or comparison of electrical quantities. • The static relays are designed to replace all the functions achieved earlier by electromechanical relays.

What is the difference between static relay and electromagnetic relay?

An electromagnetic relay is the one which uses an electromagnet to perform the switching function. A static relay is the one that uses solid state semiconductor devices like transistor, MOSFET, SCR, etc. to perform the switching function. EMR is the abbreviation used for electromagnetic relay.

What are the components of static distance relay?

The distance relays include impedance, reactance and admittance relays. In static relays the comparison of voltage and current is achieved by electronic comparator circuits. The line voltage VL and line current IL are given as the inputs to the two measuring circuits.

What are the components of static distance relay?

What is the operation of static OverCurrent relay?

Block diagram of Static OverCurrent Relay

The CT steps down the current which is fed to the rectifier unit. The rectifier converts AC to DC. The output of rectifier is fed to overload detector. It compares the signal with reference value, if overload occurs signal is passed to the timing circuit.

How does a shock relay work?

Simply put, when the Shock Protection Relay detects a problem, it shuts down the line – quickly, safely and securely, saving time and money. After the problem is corrected, the shock relay is reset at the touch of a button, with no tear down required, thereby improving efficiency and reducing downtime.

What are the basic components of digital relay?

Any digital relay can be thought of as comprising three fundamental sub- systems (Figure 3.1): (i) a signal conditioning subsystem (ii) a conversion subsystem (iii) a digital processing relay subsystem.
