Is EFS resilient?

Amazon EFS file systems are resilient to one or more Availability Zone failures within an AWS Region. Mount targets themselves are designed to be highly available.

Is EFS fault tolerant?

Using either Amazon EFS or Amazon FSx, you can provide highly available, fault- tolerant file storage to your applications running in AWS. Amazon Relational Database Service guides you in the setup, operation, and scaling a relational database in the cloud.

What is the meaning of EFS?

In a clinical trial, measuring the EFS is one way to see how well a new treatment works. Also called event-free survival.

What is EFS good for?

Amazon EFS provides performance for a broad spectrum of workloads and applications: big data and analytics, media processing workflows, content management, web serving, and home directories. Amazon EFS Standard storage classes are ideal for workloads that require the highest levels of durability and availability.

Is AWS EFS persistent?

Amazon Elastic File System (Amazon EFS) is a simple, serverless, set-and-forget, cloud native file system, enabling you to build modern applications, persist and share data from your AWS containers and serverless applications, with zero management required.

What are some limitations of EFS?

Maximum size of a single file: 52,673,613,135,872 bytes (47.9 TiB). Maximum directory depth: 1,000 levels deep. Any one particular file can have up to 512 locks across all instances connected and users accessing the file. Amazon EFS file system policies have a 20,000 character limit.

Is EFS high availability?

EFS provides high availability and durability by storing data within and across multiple Availability Zones. The zones are fully isolated partitions with their own power infrastructure and are physically separated by a meaningful distance.

Is EFS slower than EBS?

Although the baseline performance is fast enough for most workloads, it's unable to provide the low disk latency per IO operation like EBS. On the other hand, EFS – being a distributed file storage system – can handle a much higher throughput per second compared to EBS.

Is EFS encrypted at rest?

Amazon EFS uses industry-standard AES-256 encryption algorithm to encrypt EFS data and metadata at rest.

How is EFS different from S3?

Amazon S3 (Amazon Simple Storage Service) is an object storage designed for storing large numbers of user files and backups. Amazon EFS (Amazon Elastic File System) provides scalable network file storage for Amazon EC2 cloud computing service users.

What is S3 and EFS?

ECS supports writing objects using the S3 protocol and accessing them as files using NFS and, conversely, writing files using NFS and accessing the files as objects using the S3 protocol.

Is S3 region resilient?

Even though Amazon S3 provides regional data resiliency, customers often have compliance and business requirements to replicate their data to a second Region that is hundreds (or even thousands) of miles away from their primary location.

Does EFS scale down?

It scales automatically, even to meet the most abrupt workload spikes. After the period of high-volume storage demand has passed, EFS will automatically scale back down. EFS can be mounted to different AWS services and accessed from all your virtual machines. Use it for running shared volumes, or for big data analysis.

Is EFS slower than EBS?

Although the baseline performance is fast enough for most workloads, it's unable to provide the low disk latency per IO operation like EBS. On the other hand, EFS – being a distributed file storage system – can handle a much higher throughput per second compared to EBS.

Is EFS high availability?

EFS provides high availability and durability by storing data within and across multiple Availability Zones. The zones are fully isolated partitions with their own power infrastructure and are physically separated by a meaningful distance.

Is S3 slower than EFS?

EBS and EFS are both faster than Amazon S3, with high IOPS and lower latency.

What is a resilient region?

Resilient cities are cities that have the ability to absorb, recover and prepare for future shocks (economic, environmental, social & institutional). Resilient cities promote sustainable development, well-being and inclusive growth.

Is Amazon S3 a durable storage system?

S3 is a simple storage service that offers industry leading durability, availability, performance, security, and virtually unlimited scalability at very low costs.

How can I improve my EFS performance?

If your application using the file system isn't driving the expected performance from EFS, optimize the application. Also, benchmark the host or service that your application is hosted on, such as Amazon EC2, AWS Lambda, and so on.

How Good Is EFS encryption?

EFS benefits

The user does not need to remember passwords once the file is encrypted. EFS minimizes the probability of dictionary attacks with its strong key security, making it superior to many other applications where keys are based on user-entered passphrases.

Is EFS costly than EBS?

While EFS does cost more than EBS ($0.30 per GB for EFS vs. $0.10 per GB for EBS), you only pay once per EFS file system. This means that if you attach a dozen instances to it, you will still pay the same amount as if you only had one instance attached to it. With EBS volumes, you pay for each volume.
