Can you be anonymous on GitHub?

Anonymous Github allows you to simply anonymize your Github repository. Several anonymization options are available to ensure that you do not break the double-anonymize such as removing links, images or specific terms.

Can GitHub see who viewed?

If your project is hosted on GitHub, you can view how many people land on your project and where they come from. From your project's page, click “Insights”, then “Traffic”. On this page, you can see: Total page views: Tells you how many times your project was viewed.

Can anyone see private repository GitHub?

Public repositories are accessible to everyone on the internet. Private repositories are only accessible to you, people you explicitly share access with, and, for organization repositories, certain organization members.

How does GitHub know who I am?

Github recognize you from your ssh public key. If you didn't submit a public key, github will ask you for your account name and password when you are trying to push code.

Does GitHub show private activity?

Your GitHub profile shows a graph of your repository contributions over the past year. You can choose to show anonymized activity from private and internal repositories in addition to the activity from public repositories.

Do people use their real names on GitHub?

You should use your real name. My lab has a private GitHub group for internal stuff, as well as a few open public-facing projects. Everyone in our group uses their real names or some transparent abbreviation (like jsmith ) or one that matches their university email/login ID.

Can I hide my followers on GitHub?

If the instance has not opted to hide followers count instance-wide, you can still opt in to hide your own followers count from “Preferences > Other” settings. This will hide your own followers count from the client API and ActivityPub, but it will still display other people's followers count.
