What is X-Forwarded-For in HAProxy?

Since HAProxy works in reverse-proxy mode, the backend servers see its IP address as their client address. This is sometimes annoying when the client's IP address is expected in server logs. To solve this problem, the well-known HTTP header "X-Forwarded-For" may be added by HAProxy to all requests sent to the server.

What is the use of X-Forwarded-For?

The X-Forwarded-For request header is automatically added and helps you identify the IP address of a client when you use an HTTP or HTTPS load balancer. Because load balancers intercept traffic between clients and servers, your server access logs contain only the IP address of the load balancer.

Can you spoof X-Forwarded-For?

X-Forwarded-For header can capture the IP of the client and use this IP to implement access control. However, the X-Forwarded-For header can be easily spoofed or manipulated.

Does ELB support X-Forwarded-For?

Because the IP address is being maintained the Network LB method has no use for the X-Forwarded-For header which inserts the original IP when NAT is being used. Save this answer.

Is HAProxy a forward proxy?

So basically, because HAProxy is not a forward proxy, it will not actually…it will, by default, just pass my request like it is now, like with all that big path that we want. So, we will change the request and will make it look like it's actually a request meant for the backend that we want to address.

What is the difference between Remote_addr and HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR?

Answers. REMOTE_ADDR is the IP of the system that contacted your site - and that could actually be a proxy address rather than the clients real IP. If HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR is filled out, it should include the clients real IP AND any proxy IP's they trsversed to get to your site as a comma seperated list.

Is HAProxy forward or reverse proxy?

HAProxy, a Reverse Proxy Server is one of the powerful load balancers which can migrate the traffic using IP forwarding to the different and available backend servers.

Is HAProxy a reverse proxy?

HAProxy is a reverse-proxy offering high availability, load balancing, and proxy services for TCP and HTTP-based applications that spreads requests across multiple servers.

What is a forward proxy?

A forward proxy is an intermediary that sits between one or more user devices and the internet. Instead of validating a client request and sending it directly to a web server, a forward proxy server evaluates the request, takes any needed actions, and routes the request to the destination on the client's behalf.

What is the difference between HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR and Http_x_real_ip?

Hi, In case of the request being forwarded through many proxies the HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR variable will be the list of each server IP the request passed through seperated by comma (the proxy should set that variable and it is optional). While HTTP_X_REAL_IP is the IP address of the last requester.

What is Remote_addr vs Remote_host?

REMOTE_HOST pertains to the hostname of the client (i.e. the computer making the request). REMOTE_ADDR refers to the IP address of the client. There would be times when the hostname is unresolvable so the REMOTE_HOST will return the REMOTE_ADDR or the IP address instead.

What is my Remote_addr?

$_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'] is the actual physical IP address that the web server received the connection from and that the response will be sent to.

Can HAProxy forward UDP?

HAProxy 2.3 allows you to create a syslog listener over UDP or TCP that can forward, prioritize, and translate syslog messages to a pool of UDP or TCP syslog servers.

Is forward proxy the same as VPN?

No. A VPN and proxy server both mask your IP address. But a VPN will also encrypt the data you send and receive, something that a proxy server doesn't do. If you are already using a VPN, then, connecting to a website or app through a proxy server would be an unnecessary step.

Is proxy and forward proxy same?

A proxy server, sometimes referred to as a forward proxy, is a server that routes traffic between client(s) and another system, usually external to the network.

Which of the following features does ELB support?

Elastic Load Balancing supports the following load balancers: Application Load Balancers, Network Load Balancers, Gateway Load Balancers, and Classic Load Balancers. You can select the type of load balancer that best suits your needs.

Which of the following protocols are supported by ELB?

Elastic Load Balancing supports the following protocols: HTTP. HTTPS (secure HTTP) TCP.

Does ELB support cross zone load balancing?

Enabling cross-zone load balancing in Amazon ELB

Amazon ELB performs operations such as detection of unhealthy EC2 instances, spreading instances across healthy channels, etc. In cross-zone load balancing, the nodes for your load balancer distribute requests from clients to the registered targets.

Can we forward traffic to ELB from a public hosted zone?

Sign in to the AWS Management Console and open the Route 53 console at https://console.aws.amazon.com/route53/ . In the navigation pane, choose Hosted zones. Choose the name of the hosted zone that has the domain name that you want to use to route traffic to your load balancer. Choose Create record.

Does ELB have public IP address?

Internet-facing: ELB nodes have public IP addresses. Internal: ELB nodes have private IP addresses.

Is ELB a proxy?

Elastic Load Balancing uses proxy protocol version 1, which uses a human-readable header format. By default, when you use Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) for both front-end and back-end connections, your Classic Load Balancer forwards requests to the instances without modifying the request headers.

Does ELB use internet gateway?

A public ELB has a internet gateway attached to it. – A private subnet which the EC2 instance is attached to (this is done by createing a VPC).

Can I forward traffic based on source IP address?

Source-based routes cannot be redistributed into another virtual router or into another routing protocol. You can assign a particular subnet to use a source-based route and leave all other traffic to be routed through the default route. Source-based routes will take precedence over destination routes.

What is ELB 4XX?

ELB 4XX errors

HTTP 4XX error codes are generated when clients send faulty or malformed requests to the load balancer. Though potential causes for these errors can be guessed, not much can be done to troubleshoot.

Can ELB Cross region?

Amazon has their own Elastic Load Balancer, but it only works to distribute traffic within a region. And while it supports load balancing between availability zones within the same region, it does not allow you to distribute traffic to another region, unless you want to use DNS, which is less than ideal.
