Is NSX-V End of Life?

Supporting NSX-V customers while delivering on NSX-T's roadmap became difficult for VMware, so in 2018 VMware announced the NSX-V End of Support Life (EOS) date of January 16, 2022, and the end of technical guidance of January 16, 2023.

Why NSX-T is better than NSX-V?

It is designed for different virtualization platforms and multi-hypervisor environments and can also be used where NSX-v is not feasible to deploy. NSX-T supports network virtualization stack for KVM, Docker, Kubernetes and OpenStack as well as AWS native workloads.

Can NSX-V and NSX-T coexist?

Some customers choose to introduce NSX-T alongside NSX-V. They can coexist and even connect to the same vCenter if the workloads are in different clusters.

What is NSX-V to NSX-T?

VMware NSX-v is specific to vSphere hypervisor environments and was developed before NSX-T. NSX-T (NSX-Transformers) was designed for different virtualization platforms and multi-hypervisor environments and can also be used in cases where NSX-v is not applicable.

Is NSX-V out of support?

VMware® support for all new VMware NSX-V deployments ended on 16 January 2022. Beginning on 21 June 2022, you can no longer order new VMware vCenter Server® with NSX-V instances. However, VMware and IBM worked closely to extend the existing NSX–V support until 31 December 2023.

What does the T stand for in NSX-T?

The “T” in NSX-T stands for “Transformers.” Intuitively, NSX-“Transformers” allows the solution to transform beyond the initial use case of network virtualization with VMware vSphere and into the realm of public cloud and modern containerized workloads.

Why do we need NSX-T?

With NSX-T, it's possible to build highly agile software-defined network infrastructures that allow multiple cloud networks in different environments to interact with one another and be controlled from one central location.

What will replace the NSX?

Two mid-to-large electric SUVs built in collaboration with General Motors will arrive in 2024. One will be called the Honda Prologue and the other will be sold under the Acura brand.

Why upgrade from NSX-V to NSX-T?

Without the flexibility, NSX-V keeps you from expanding your environment to more than a single on-premises vCenter infrastructure. NSX-T and its dynamic nature let you expand to the cloud, integrate into a container environment, or have NSX across multiple hypervisors.

Does Tanzu require NSX-T?

Yes, by installing and configuring the NSX Advanced Load Balancer or the HAProxy load balancer. To use NSX-T Data Center networking for the Supervisor Cluster: Review the system requirements and topologies for NSX-T networking. See System Requirements for Setting Up vSphere with Tanzu with NSX-T Data Center.

How much does NSX-T cost?

According to research, the base price of the NSX-T was roughly $80,000 at the time, which would be around $130,000 in 2020.

Is NSX part of VCF?

VCF is based on different components like vSphere (compute), vSAN (storage), NSX (networking), and some parts of the Aria Suite (formerly vRealize Suite). The idea of VCF follows a standardized, automated, and validated approach that simplifies the management of all the needed software-defined infrastructure resources.

When was NSX-V released?

VMware released NSX-V in 2012 after it acquired Nicira. VMware incorporated Nicira Network Virtualization Platform with its own vCloud Networking and Security. NSX-V is designed to extend the capabilities of vSphere. It requires a vCenter Server and ESXi hosts.

What does NSX-V stand for?

This became the mainstream VMware NSX-V. The “V” in the NSX-V solution stands for “vSphere.” VMware NSX-V is a vSphere-only solution. It is VMware's software-defined networking platform supported to run in a vSphere environment. Currently, the solution is marketed as NSX Data Center for vSphere.

What is the difference between NSX-V and NSX-T?

VMware NSX requires multiple tools to cover the entire hybrid data center environment. This means NSX-V for ESXi hosts, NSX-T for bare-metal servers, and NSX-Cloud for VMware cloud hosting.

Does NSX require vCenter?

This newer version supports different virtualization platforms and multi-hypervisor environments. NSX-T supports various network virtualization stacks, including KVM, Docker, Kubernetes, OpenStack, and Amazon Web Services (AWS). VMware NSX-T does not require a vCenter Server.

What happens if NSX manager goes down?

NSX Manager keeps track of VMs that are moved from one cluster to another and sends this information to hosts upon VM migration. But if the NSX Manager is powered off, there is no communication between the hosts and the NSX Manager to send the updated exclude list down to the migrated cluster.
