Are UMD libraries open to public?

Visitors can use our items on site during regular library hours. Items held at Severn Library need to be requested in advance. Check out books through our Community Borrowers Program. Guest access to university databases is available on-site by requesting a guest login at our service desks.

Where is UMD STEM Library?

The entrance to STEM Library is located on the first floor of William E. Kirwan Hall (the Math building) at the University of Maryland College Park.

Food and beverages are allowed in McKeldin Library and STEM Library. Beverages (but not food) are allowed in the Shady Grove Library. Food is prohibited in the Architecture, Art, Hornbake, and Performing Arts Libraries.

You may reserve a study carrel on these floors by using our online system. Rooms may be reserved from two hours to one week in advance for use by one person at a time. The following rules apply for all study carrels in McKeldin Library: Carrels are for quiet individual study only.

Defined as any individual under 17 years of age, juveniles are not allowed out unsupervised beginning at 11:59 PM on Friday and Saturday nights, and ending at 5:00 AM. During the week, the curfew is even earlier at 10:00 PM.
