What is 3 step distance protection?
In three stepped distance protection, the relay is set for protection of line in three steps with suitable time delay between each step for back up. In this project to design three stepped distance relay, one quadrilateral relay and two reactance relays are used.
What is time stepped distance protection?
Stepped distance protection uses delays and other forms of coordination, as discussed in [28] for overcurrent protection in a microgrid, to enhance the selectivity and reliability of the system. Typically, distance relays use multiple zones of protection namely Zone-1, Zone-2, and Zone-3, as shown in Fig. 1.
What is the concept of distance protection?
The basic principle of distance protection involves the division of the voltage at the relaying point by the measured current. The apparent impedance so calculated is compared with the reach point impedance.
What is distance protection in power system?
A distance relay is a type of protection relay most often used for transmission line protection. Distance relays measure the impedance from the installation side to the fault location and operates in response to changes in the ratio of measured current and voltage.
